School Open Day: Wednesday, November 13th, 10 AM - 1 PM

General Informations

Aix-en-Provence, a stopping place on the road from Northen France to Italy, draws its origin, its name and, to an extent , its reputation, from its thermal springs. It began as the capital of Provence under the successive rule of the Celts, the Romans, the courts and the Monarchs, until 1790, when it became merely the chief town of the area. It kept however its Court of Appeal (a remainder of the Parliament created in 1501), its University (which has been producing the same execellent standards since 1413), and its Archbishopric which keeps up the metropolitan dignity acquired in the 14th Century. At the present time, Aix has approximately 150000 inhabitants.

As a result of the patronage of its former rulers (and especially of the officials of Parliament and Courts who created an urban setting with town-houses, mansions and castles worthy of their sovereign functions), Aix maintains today a cultural tradition expressed each year by the International Festival of Lyrical Art and Music. The feeling of continuity is due not only to its prestigious past but also to the beautiful scenery which surrounds Aix and which has inspired artists and intellectuals, as indeed it inspired Cézanne.

Location

♦ Nestled in the heart of one of Europe’s most celebrated tourist regions, Aix is the perfect base from which to discover Provence. One cannot help but appreciate its quality environment, from Cézanne’s Aix landscapes through the Camargue, the Alpilles Mountains, and the surrounding Mediterranean Coast.

♦ The historic capital of Provence, a university city, an artistic center with a rich architectural heritage, Aix is a city which knows how to live the good life. -

♦ The Cours Mirabeau and its animated sidewalk cafés, the nearby Aix countryside, and the many sports and cultural activities available the year round are a few of the advantage of this dynamic, forward-looking city.

Host Families

In the search for a more personnalized form of accomodation for our student population the VSA school has opted for host families.

We are very happy with our choice : we believe that our host family program provides a serious, safe, and harmonious environment for those students living away from home. Students need to be at least 12 years old to be considered for host family accomodation.

Our host families are carefully selected. Many of them have worked with us for over 10 years. Some families can host up to 3 students providing accomodation of a very high standard in an environment that allows quality home living.

Depending on the distance from school and the age of the student, host families can be asked to take care of the commute to and from VSA. Breakfast and dinner are provided by the host family.

Fees for accomodation are paid directly to the host family. Student family and host family determine conditions of stay whether weekly/termly with weekends included.

Supervised studies are also a possibility.
